While brimming with custom-made and hand crafted finishes inside, "Nature, art and natural materials define the facade," says Rob Mills, . In fact, the external material palette is 'designed to engage directly with the street. mixing natural and manmade materials in a way that plays to the strength of both," Rob Mills Architecture & Interiors comments.
A beautiful solid timber doorway, complete with louvers on either side, warmly welcomes visitors at the entrance, while a Bruce Armstrong sculpture sits to the left on the street, and series of Silver Birch plantings sit gracefully to the right.
Paired beautifully the timber, are Petersen D91 handmade bricks, chosen as the principal material for the facade. And, true to Petersen style, they adorn the facade with dramatic effect.
For Rob Mills Architects, selecting Petersen D91bricks all came down to aesthetics; they simply liked the look of the brick and knew they were a perfect complement to the external palette. The bricks also provided a warm and soft balance to the annodised aluminium framing, which houses large scale picture windows facing west, and matching automated louvers.
But perhaps the most visually striking external feature of the house is the curve of Petersen D91 bricks on the street face, which is still guaranteed to stop passers by.
Excitingly for Visioneer Builders, this stunning house created a stir at the 2016 HIA-CSR Victorian Housing Awards, before many industry leaders and peers, winning accolades across three categories, including Home of the Year, Custom Built Home of the Year and Custom Built Home Over $2million. The official comment from the Housing Industry Association judges says it all, ‘It was exceptional from the moment you walked in!"
